Programs & Workshops

  • The Street Trust, formerly the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, is the oldest bicycle and active transportation advocacy group in Portland.

With programs including (but not limited to!) Commuter Clinics, Rules of the Road workshops, and an e-bike lending library, The Street Trust is an excellent resource for new and nervous cyclists. They additionally advocate for better transportation policy, funding, and infrastructure.

Check out their calendar of events for workshops and rides.

  • Portland By Cycle is the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) initiative to help people feel confident and safe biking. They host skill-building workshops and guided group rides throughout the year, and offer expanded walking resources through their SmartTrips program.

Sign up for their newsletter for updates.

  • The Community Cycling Center is both a neighborhood bike shop and a community hub. Their mission is to make bicycles accessible to people of all backgrounds.

Their non-profit bike shop offers new and used parts and bikes, great mechanics with affordable service prices, and even DIY classes.

Community Cycling Center also hosts numerous programs for kids and adults that encourage cycling safety, confidence, and joy throughout the year.

  • Free Bikes 4 Kidz is a relatively new nonprofit aimed at getting all families with kids comfortable on bikes.

  • That's right—us!

We offer free monthly bike tune-ups, host a Lloyd-centered mobility committee, and advocate every day for improved bike and pedestrian infrastructure in our neighborhood.

Maintenance & repairs

  • Bike Farm is an all volunteer-run bike repair collective where anyone can learn to work on their own bike. You can use Bike Farm’s tools, learn a new skill, and buy new or used parts affordably. Bike Farm is an inclusive safe space, hosting affinity nights and workshops, and their mission is to promote bike-centered learning and community. From Bike Farm: "We strive to demystify the bicycle in order to impact the city in a healthy and positive way."

    What could be better?

  • Mitch, of PDX Mobile Bike Repair, is the best. Call him, and he'll drive his converted van/bike repair shop right to your door. His pup, Buck, will probably come by too!

  • Timothy Horner is your guy for bike-related house calls! He'll come straight to you and fix your bike on the spot. Give him a direct call at 503-708-2092 to schedule.

  • Something Cycles is a fun shop on the edge of Lloyd that just opened in 2023. Drop by and say hi to Nick for repairs and expertise.

  • A comprehensive shop right at the north edge of Lloyd, Cyclepath has whatever you need to get riding smoothly.

  • The Street Trust's WeBike program is open to all women, female-identifying, trans, and gender-nonconforming folks who enjoy biking (or think that they would if they had a safe group to ride with).

  • The Portland chapter of a national movement, Black Girls Do Bike is “…like a pep rally for black girls on bikes!” BGDB is committed to growing and supporting a community of women of color who share a passion for cycling and sisterhood.

  • Friends on Bikes is a bike community for Black, Indigenous, and people of color who are women, trans, and/or non-binary. In addition to fun rides, snacks, and friendship, they provide a safe space for underrepresented folks in the cycling scene.

  • Ride Safe is a queer-led safer space that welcomes e-bikes and skates too. Come as you are and join one of their many hosted rides.

  • Kidical Mass offers free family-friendly bike rides around the city.

  • Every Wednesday afternoon, Bike Portland hosts Bike Happy Hour, a place for anyone in Portland who is interested in biking, safety, and city planning to come together to share knowledge (and fries).

  • Ride around together while your food cooks on trailers, then enjoy the meal you prepared on the way! Join the club here.

  • If you're biking in Portland, then you've got to know about Shift2Bikes, a self-proclaimed "loose-knit and informal bunch of bike-loving folks." Their calendar is open to the community and anybody can post any type of group ride for other folks to find and join.

And every June, July, and August, it's Bike Summer in Portland. Also known as Pedalpalooza, Bike Summer is when the Shift calendar explodes with rides and events. Whatever your interests, there will absolutely be a ride for you. And once you feel comfortable, you can even lead your own ride!
