Sullivan's Gulch Garden Gathering

No garden space and wish you could adopt a neighbor’s yard? Garden out of control and want help?

Join us to swap seeds, meet neighbors, schedule group gardening days and more! Come to our first neighborhood meeting as we meet Saturday, February 22nd from 12-2PM in the lot behind the Broadway Grill.

About Sullivan’s Gulch Cup O’ Sugar

You have needs. You also have skills. So do we and the rest of our neighbors. Wouldn’t it be nice to help each other out?

We’re creating a hyper-local mutual aid group called Cup O’ Sugar and, as a neighbor, would love for you to be part of it with us.

We have a form that gives us a quick view of what folks need and can offer so we can start connecting neighbors. If you want help in the garden or need someone to look at that weird sound from your refrigerator, we can connect you with a neighbor or mutual aid group who can help.

We will have gatherings where we exchange clothes/food/books/etc, hold workshops, and get to know the neighborhood – maybe find your new knitting circle or jam band – hope to see you there!

Fill out the form here: https://tinyurl.com/sugar97232

Monthly Keaton Otis Vigil

Join our community partners, the Lloyd EcoDistrict, for the Keaton Otis Vigil each month on the 12th from 6 to 7 PM at the intersection of NE Halsey Street & NE 6th Avenue in Lloyd.

Keaton Otis was a young Black man killed by the Portland police on May 12, 2010 in Lloyd in 2010 at NE 6th and NE Halsey. The police admitted they stopped him for “looking like a gangster.” Keaton’s father Fred Bryant started the monthly vigil on the 12th of the month after his son’s murder on the spot where Keaton’s life was taken. Fred Bryant did this for over three years, fighting for justice for his son, every single month in the rain, the dark, the heat, and the snow. Fred Bryant passed away on October 29, 2013.

His family and community have committed to continuing the vigils every month on the 12th, until justice is achieved for Keaton, for Fred, and for our whole community.

Since 2019 Lloyd EcoDistrict has been working with the Black-led Justice for Keaton Otis collective to memorialize the life of Keaton Otis. Join community members at the corner of NE 6th and NE Halsey on the 12th of every month at 6:00 PM to remember Keaton and call for justice.

Holladay Park Hub “Office Hours”

Swing by Holladay Park to enjoy a cup of hot coffee and chat with Lloyd EcoDistrict staff about the park, learn about e-mobility & resiliency hubs, and share your ideas, concerns, and aspirations for transforming the park into a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable community space.

Why? Together we can co-create a safer, greener, more connected community space designed to make Lloyd a model of sustainability and inclusivity.

Holladay Park is Lloyd’s only significant green space. Yet, it has become an area of concern for many residents and city bureaus. A truly beautiful space, Holladay Park should be the center of the Lloyd community that supports our climate and community goals, not an anchor that holds us back.

Lloyd EcoDistrict is leading an initiative to develop a shovel-ready, community-supported E-mobility & Resiliency Hub that will integrate placemaking, electric mobility options, emergency preparedness, and public transit in a way that resonates with the community.

We believe that the best ideas come from the community. That’s why we’re asking for your input. Your feedback will ensure that the hub meets the needs of everyone in the Lloyd neighborhood.

The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

Artists Off the Page, an illustration-focused collective, is expanding its repertoire this holiday season with a new multidisciplinary art experience. "A Walk through Winter Wonderland" opens in a vacated store at the Lloyd Center Mall. The show will be a joyful explosion of art exploring the mythology, stories, and traditions of the darkest season of the year. It features over 40 artists from the Portland metro area, working across many disciplines, including sculpture, puppetry, illustration, light and sound installation, set design and more. Wander through the self-guided art experience at your own pace, seeing the winter woods change to candy forests. Peruse the bookshelves in the storyteller's cabin, venture onward into the ancient Land of the Fae, shiver with fear as you enter Krampus' cave, and marvel at the miniature worlds contained within the Stump of Wonders.

The event also serves as a great destination for holiday gifts, featuring a gift shop chock-full of handmade items from participating artists.

Barbara Streisand once sang “don’t rain on my parade.” For Torie Nguyen and Cathy Zwicker, Crafty Wonderland co-founders, more appropriate lyrics might have been “don’t rain on my craft fair.”

Tired of getting rained out and traveling to other cities to sell their work, the two Portland jewelry artists set to work creating an indoor marketplace for their work and the work of fellow local makers. “We decided to start it before someone else did,” says Nguyen.
